Case Studies

Client: Sunglass Hut

BRIEF:

To create a display consisting of 250 suspended metal balls and window decals at Melbourne's Crown Casino during the Australian Open.

CHALLENGE:

  • The window in the Crown Casino shopping complex is over four metres high, so safety was paramount.
    We needed to ensure Crown OH&S procedures were followed;
  • Security passes and parking access needed to be obtained.

SOLUTION:

  • While the design may have been simple, a smooth installation relied on a detailed plan. Our 5 years of experience meant we left no stone unturned;
  • Our talented team was able to build a suspension unit onto which we tied the balls directly, thereby reducing the installation time;
  • Plinth decals and window decals were also installed.

RESULT:

A fantastic display in a fantastic retail outlet, a happy client and a happy Crown Casino.

Client: Sunglass Hut

BRIEF:

To transform a standard eyewear retail store into a tennis promotion with ‘wow' factor.

CHALLENGE:

  • We were to incorporate as many additional elements as possible within the limited budget;
  • The installation had to be scheduled outside of trading hours to ensure minimum interruption to business.

SOLUTION:

  • Prior to the promotion, we conducted a full measure and site check;
  • We installed artificial turf, adding white lines for a tennis court effect;
  • Plinth displays were created with turf and pyramid statues made of tennis balls;
  • Window decals and fixture decals were added in-store;
  • Window banners were suspended from the ceiling;
  • Balls were suspended from the store ceiling with removable hooks.

TIMELINE:

We completed this project with a three-week lead time.

RESULT:

The retailers were amazed at the interest generated from the set-up, which resulted in increased sales. With the help of Double Impact, Sunglass Hut's promotion was on time and on budget, making them very happy clients.

Client: Universal Pictures

BRIEF:

To create displays for the release of the DVD Mamma Mia in 20 flagship stores with the aim of engaging the retail shopper. All the creative input was left to us.

TESTIMONIAL:
"We approached DID to take on the task of creating in-store theatre in our top 20 retail outlets. We left the creative entirely up to them. The results were far beyond our expectations. Sales in these flagged stores were record breaking. Well done and thanks to the crew at DID."
Rebecca He‘bert - Merchandising Manager -Universal Pictures

CHALLENGE:

  • Within a very tight budget, we needed to create a layout that added ‘wow' factor to the supplied A1 posters;
  • All elements had to be kept lightweight to enable them to be suspended from Kmart's ceilings;

SOLUTION:

  • We contrasted the poster title to make it stand apart;
  • Communication with retailers was maintained throughout the process to arrange access to stores. We ensured all displays were installed outside of normal trading hours to minimise interruption to retail shoppers;
  • We manufactured the signage ourselves and sourced all additional props, finally creating a layout for our visual merchandisers to follow so that the displays were uniform nationally.

TIMELINE:

Once POS was dispatched to our merchandisers, we had a four-day installation window prior to the release date.

RESULT:

Increased sales of the DVD title in all of the 20 stores that had one of our displays.

Client: Nintendo

BRIEF:

To create displays for all JB Hi Fi windows nationally for the release of the new Super Mario Brothers game.

TESTIMONIAL:
"The JB Hi Fi Group have evolved with Double Impact in the way we tackle our window and in-store presentations. This has been achieved by great and constant communications with Jen and her team. They are always open to new ideas and finding a way of dealing with any situation that may arise."
Maryann Hulbert - National Merchandising Coordinator
JB Hi Fi Group/Clive Anthonys Pty Ltd

CHALLENGE:

  • The budget was very tight;
  • We had to create a layout that engaged the retailer with a standout contrasting title;
  • All elements had to be kept lightweight for easy installation;
  • Access to stores had to be arranged with the retailers as well as an agreement to have all displays installed outside of normal trading hours.

SOLUTION:

  • Double Impact Displays created a simple yet effective display on time and on budget;
  • We manufactured all the required signage, sourced all additional props and created a layout for all visual merchandisers to follow to ensure national uniformity.

TIMELINE:

After shipping POS to our visual merchandisers nationally, we adhered to a three-day installation schedule.

RESULT:

Styrene title signs and cardboard cutouts gave the displays standout appeal, drawing the shopper's attention in a busy retail environment.

Client: Optus

BRIEF:

To create a way of incorporating the elephant graphic into the retail stores without taking up limited and valuable retail floor space.

TESTIMONIAL:
"We approached DID at the very last minute for a major campaign to pull through a really strong in-store retail theatre execution. With limited time, DID gladly accepted the challenge. Within a few weeks we had a well executed in-store retail campaign. So successful was the in-store execution, the elements remained posted in our head office for a year and were loved by all, including the senior leadership team and sales right through to store staff. It was professionally executed with no hiccups and within budget. Well done to a great team."
William Beukes -Retail Marketing Manager- Optus

CHALLENGE:

  • Additional elements to emphasise the ‘RELAX' theme and bring some summer fun throughout January 2008 were required;
  • Finding a Christmas tree with a difference was integral;
  • Props needed to be self-standing;
  • All of the above elements had to be installed nationally, on time and within budget.

SOLUTION:

  • We decided to take the display from the ground to the air, suspending the key prop elements to form a focal point in the store - a digitally printed cardboard elephant cutout in a hammock surrounded by styrene foam palm leaves.
  • We included a self-standing elephant relaxing in a spa bath that had a 3D front pouch into which we added shredded plastic to represent bubbles. This was then placed in the shop window and surrounded with supplied props, such as towels, to emphasise the ‘day spa' feel.
  • The Christmas tree was perhaps the most ingenious element. Manufactured in-house on our own computerised hot wire cutter, we created a tree in two sections that was lightweight, easy and cost-effective to ship and simply slotted together.

TIMELINE:

From creation to installation, the entire project was completed in six weeks.

RESULT:

All components of the ‘RELAX' rollout were distributed from our Sydney warehouse to our team of national visual merchandisers. Our VM team then completed an installation into the retail stores including floor and lightbox graphics. They photographed each location and provided a comprehensive digital post-run and photo report to our client, Optus, who were thrilled with the result.
